Bent Tree Wind Farm

The Bent Tree Wind Farm is located near Albert Lea in Freeborn County, Minnesota. It began commercial operation in February 2011.

  • Nameplate capacity: 201 megawatts (enough to power approximately 53,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 122
  • Generating energy on behalf of Wisconsin customers

Cedar Ridge Wind Farm

Cedar Ridge Wind Farm is located in the towns of Eden and Empire in Fond du Lac County, Wis. It began commercial operation in December 2008. The Operations building at Cedar Ridge earned a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

  • Nameplate capacity: 68 megawatts (enough to power approximately 16,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 41
  • Generating energy for Wisconsin customers 

English Farms Wind Farm

The English Farms Wind Farm is located in Poweshiek County, Iowa. It began operation in March 2019.

  • Nameplate capacity: 170 megawatts (enough to power approximately 60,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 69
  • Generating energy for Iowa customers

Franklin County Wind Farm

Franklin County Wind Farm is located in Franklin County, Iowa. It began commercial operation in 2012.

  • Nameplate capacity: 99 megawatts (enough to power approximately 30,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 60
  • Generating energy for Iowa customers

Golden Plains Wind Farm

The Golden Plains Wind Farm is located in Kossuth and Winnebago counties in Iowa. It began operation in March 2020.

  • Nameplate capacity: 200 megawatts (enough to power approximately 73,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 82
  • Generating energy for Iowa customers

Kossuth Wind Farm

The Kossuth Wind Farm is located in Kossuth County, Iowa. It began operation in October 2020. Nameplate capacity: 150 megawatts (enough to power approximately 57,000 homes)

Richland Wind Farm

The Richland Wind Farm is located in Sac County. It began operation in September 2020.

  • Nameplate capacity: 130 megawatts (enough to power approximately 50,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 53
  • Generating energy for Iowa customers

Upland Prairie Wind Farm

The Upland Prairie Wind Farm is located in Clay and Dickinson Counties in Iowa. It began operation in March 2019.

  • Nameplate capacity: 300 megawatts (enough to power approximately 108,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 121
  • Generating energy for Iowa customers

Whispering Willow East Wind Farm

The Whispering Willow East Wind Farm is located in Franklin County, Iowa. It began commercial operation in December 2009.

  • Nameplate capacity: 200 megawatts (enough to power approximately 59,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 121
  • Generating energy for Iowa customers

Whispering Willow North Wind Farm

The Whispering Willow North Wind Farm is located in Franklin County, Iowa. It is an expansion of our existing Whispering Willow East Wind Farm. It started generating energy in January 2020.

  • Nameplate capacity: 200 megawatts (enough to power approximately 73,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 81
  • Generating energy for Iowa customers

Wind farms we partly own

Forward Wind Energy Center

The Forward Wind Energy Center is located in southern Fond du Lac and northern Dodge Counties near Brownsville, Wisconsin. It is jointly owned by Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin energy company, Wisconsin Public Service Corp. and Madison Gas and Electric.  

  • Nameplate capacity owned by Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin energy company: 55 megawatts (enough to power approximately 14,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 86
  • Generating energy for Wisconsin customers

Great Western Wind Farm

The Great Western Wind Farm is located in Oklahoma. It is jointly owned by Alliant Energy Corporation and EDF Renewables.

  • Nameplate capacity owned by Alliant Energy Corporation: 113 megawatts
  • Number of turbines: 93
  • Generating energy under contract for Google

Purchased wind power

We purchase nearly 600 megawatts of wind energy from wind farms across Iowa, southern Minnesota and Wisconsin.
