Alliant Energy named a Top Utility in Economic Development

Fifth consecutive year Site Selection magazine recognizes Alliant Energy’s contributions to business development and job creation

Madison, WI (August 31, 2023) - Site Selector Magazine announced for the fifth consecutive year that Alliant Energy has earned their Top Utility in Economic Development honor. The annual list recognizes the company for its contributions to local community development and job creation.

In its September issue, Site Selection credits Alliant Energy’s economic development team, in collaboration with local, regional and state economic development partners in Iowa and Wisconsin, for delivering nearly $2.1 billion in new capital investment and creating more than 3,900 new jobs in 2022.

Alliant Energy is one of 20 companies nationally named to the list and the only one in Iowa and Wisconsin. In all, there are 3,300 utility companies, including 900 electric cooperatives, in the United States.

“For the fifth year in a row, Alliant Energy is proud to be honored as a top utility in economic development,” said John Larsen, Board Chair and CEO of Alliant Energy. “Our partnerships in the communities we serve are a positive force behind economic development project success. We appreciate each partner and their consistent collaboration, which supports our purpose driven strategy to build stronger communities and serve customers.”

The 2022 projects included 69 industrial wins across the 1,300-plus communities Alliant Energy serves. Businesses in food processing and ingredients accounted for nine projects and original equipment manufacturing accounted for 11.

Iowa Partners:
“Much of our continued success at our Clinton facility is due to our ability to depend on Alliant Energy to go beyond what is expected of a typical utility company,” said Justin Wilkinson, Factory Manager, Purina in Clinton, Iowa.

“Alliant Energy was an early and instrumental partner when bringing Western Smokehouse Partners to the greater Burlington area,” said Jeremy Hess, Director of Economic Development, Greater Burlington Partnership. “Our partnership is an essential component when helping a business determine whether it can locate, relocate or expand in our community and I am consistently appreciative of how their team works with us to advance projects and our economic development strategy.”

“Bringing Atlas Roofing Corporation to the Lincolnway Industrial Rail & Air Park this year would not have been possible without the support of Alliant Energy,” said Andy Sokolovich, President & CEO, Grow Clinton. “Through Alliant, Iowa Land & Building purchased the necessary acreage to solidify Atlas’ land requirements. We want to thank Alliant Energy for supporting the industrial site and our community.”

Wisconsin Partners:
“Mercury Marine’s partnership with Alliant Energy has helped us continue to invest in our facilities and achieve our sustainability goals, which in turn builds and strengthens our community,” said Stephen Marsch, Mercury Marine director, facilities engineering and maintenance services.

“Alliant Energy has been a great partner on multiple economic development activities in Dodge County, Wisconsin,” said Nate Olson, Community Development Administrator, Dodge County Land Resources and Parks Dept. “They understand the complexity of creating and maintaining communities where businesses and people want to call home. Through a variety of projects, I have worked side by side with members of the Alliant Energy team and the result is always the same, collaborative working partnerships that result in successful projects and positive trusting relationships.”
