McFarland Clinic Marshalltown Office recognized for energy-efficient design

Alliant Energy recognized the McFarland Clinic in Marshalltown, Iowa, as a recipient of the 2023 Excellence in Energy-Efficient Design Awards for outstanding efforts to reduce energy use.

Recipients are selected from projects whose designers participated in the Commercial New Construction program (CNC) offered by Alliant Energy and MidAmerican Energy Company. The program provides energy design assistance and energy efficiency incentives to commercial customers for new construction, additions and renovation projects in areas the two utilities serve.

Roseland, Mackey, Harris Architects, PC and Resource Consulting Engineers LLC designed the medical clinic. It achieves 45% annual energy savings when compared to the CNC program baseline. The new clinic was designed to provide a high-quality environment for patient care and to minimize building energy consumption, paying special attention to the control of infectious aerosols. The building envelope was designed to provide natural light and views, and to limit outside air infiltration. The building HVAC systems include a ground-coupled central plant, which heats and chills water that serves terminal units, and a central ventilation system with energy recovery.

Alliant Energy presented the award at the 2023 American Institute of Architects Iowa Annual Convention.

Alliant Energy is proud to partner with Willdan and MidAmerican Energy for the Commercial New Construction program. Alliant Energy and its partners are grateful to the American Institute of Architects for continuing to recognize and celebrate energy efficiency.
