Manufacturing expansion qualifies for Alliant Energy’s Economic Development Incentive Rate

Illinois-based meat snack manufacturer Western Smokehouse Partners recently announced it will invest $20.7 million in an existing 103,000-square-foot facility in Burlington, Iowa. The company currently has operations in Galesburg and Springfield, Illinois, and Greentop, Missouri, but increased demand for its products has driven need for an additional facility. The company expects to complete the project in May 2023.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority awarded the project a $200,000 forgivable loan through the High Quality Jobs program. The company also will receive $270,042 in state and local tax benefits, as well as a $40,000 local match through Burlington's Economic Development Fund.

In addition, Alliant Energy provided a discount on the electric rate through our Economic Development Incentive Rate. This rate offers a flexible discount on the kilowatt base demand charge and kilowatt-hour base usage for the first five years of operation.

The family-owned company is a co-packer and private label producer of high-quality meats snacks that are certified grass-fed and free-range beef with no sugar or antibiotics. Customers include Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Costco and Sam’s Club. Other brands include Iowa Smokehouse, Chef’s Cut and Sweetwood Smokehouse.
