Companies and communities generate income and meet renewable energy goals

With Alliant Energy® Customer-Hosted Renewables projects, we partner with businesses and communities to host an Alliant Energy solar farm or battery storage system on-site. In exchange, they receive monthly lease payments from Alliant Energy,  a win-win.

The program helps customers meet renewable energy goals and is designed to showcase the benefits renewable energy can bring to local communities, businesses and homes.  These projects are often smaller in scale, with maximum capacity limits of 2.25 megawatts (MW) per project. Customers are eligible for up to 5 MW if they qualify.

In Wisconsin, Alliant Energy has four operational customer-hosted projects and one scheduled to begin construction later this year.

The 2.25-MW Kohler Solar Field on Kohler Co.'s property in the village of Kohler is one example of Alliant Energy’s customer-hosted solar program at work. The Kohler Solar Field is one of several environmental initiatives Kohler has undertaken since 2008 as it aspires to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.

“This is an important element of our Better Planet environmental strategy because it’s helping the company reduce its impact while bringing a valuable long-term benefit to our local community,” said Ratish Namboothiry, director of Innovation for Good and Sustainability at Kohler Co. “We are excited to work with Alliant Energy to bring clean energy to Sheboygan County.”

In Iowa, Alliant Energy has announced four customer-hosted projects. Many have recently started construction or will begin later this summer.

The customer-hosted 1-MW solar field with Fareway Stores Inc. will begin construction later this summer at the Boone Industrial Park on a six-acre site adjacent to Fareway’s campus in Boone, Iowa.

“For decades, Fareway has recognized the importance of conserving natural resources and reducing our carbon footprint,” said Fareway CEO Reynolds W. Cramer. “The partnership with Alliant Energy is another way we can make great strides in positively impacting our environment. We appreciate the opportunity to host this solar project and bring clean energy to the communities we serve.”

Partnering with customers and developing customer-hosted solar projects is just another way we keep our customers at the heart of everything we do.
