Iowa customers who need help paying their energy bill have several options, including federal LIHEAP grants and payment plans you can set up online. Review the programs below to find the one that fits your situation.
Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP): This federal program accepts applications on a first-come, first-served basis between November 1 and April 30 each year. LIHEAP offers a one-time payment to qualified households to help with heating costs.

Crisis funds: Additional LIHEAP funds may be available for households facing financial hardship, even if they already received LIHEAP assistance.
If you can't pay your bill in full by your due date, you may be eligible for a payment arrangement or payment extension.
Payment arrangement: A plan to pay off your past-due balance over time.
Payment extension: Extends your current bill's due date up to 30 days.
This assistance program helps income-qualified households pay their energy bills. Eligible customers can receive up to $500 toward heating and cooling costs. Hometown Care Energy Fund is supported by Alliant Energy, community partners and customers.
