We're upgrading our generating station in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, to increase its efficiency and its capacity from 300 megawatts (MW) to approximately 440 MW. The site will then be able to power nearly 30% more homes than it can today. We expect construction to begin in August 2025 and to finish in summer 2026.
Gas generation
In gas turbine generation, compressed air mixes with fuel and ignites to spin a turbine, which in turn spins a generator to produce electrical power.
Our new gas turbines are more efficient, with the ability to quickly ramp energy production up or down. This complements renewable generation. We can quickly and efficiently increase gas generation on cloudy or windless days and likewise quickly decrease it when renewable generation is abundant.
Thanks to new advances in turbine technology, we can cost-effectively upgrade the existing Sheboygan Falls facility and avoid the cost of new generation construction. This allows us to continue to deliver safe, reliable power and keep customer bills as low as possible.
