As the weather gets cooler and the leaves change colors, be sure to add these to-dos to your safety checklist for the chilly months ahead.
- Remind yourself where utility lines pass over your home. Before you use a ladder or climb the roof to clean gutters, make sure you can keep yourself, your ladder and tools at least 10 feet from utility lines.
- Keep tree trimming tools away from utility lines. Be sure branches or trees you cut don’t strike lines.
- Keep natural gas meter sets and appliance exhaust vents clear of leaves, plants, snow, ice and debris.
- For farmers working on their harvest, be sure to keep an eye out for overhead power lines in and around fields.
