We'll modernize the combustion turbines at our Riverside Energy Center in Beloit, Wisconsin. The improvements we propose will ensure the facility remains a reliable part of our balanced energy portfolio and maximizes value from existing generation resources. By improving an existing facility through targeted turbine component replacement, we strengthen grid resilience and manage customer costs over time.
We expect to complete construction in May 2028.
Gas generation
With natural gas generation, compressed air mixes with fuel and ignites to spin a turbine, which in turn spins a generator to produce electrical power.
The upgraded gas turbines will be able to quickly ramp energy production up or down. This complements renewable generation sources like solar and wind. When the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing, we can quickly increase gas generation to meet energy demands. Likewise, when renewable generation is abundant, we can quickly decrease it.
Thanks to new advances in turbine technology, we can cost-effectively upgrade the existing Riverside facility instead of building new generation. Our investments are focused on smart decisions that enhance reliability today and help prevent unnecessary costs for customers in the years ahead.
