We plan to construct a new battery energy storage system (BESS) in Creston, Iowa. The 40-megawatt battery storage is part of our plan to increase reliability for the future. At maximum output, the Creston BESS will be able to power over 32,000 homes for four hours on a single charge. We expect to begin construction in 2027.
How will the Creston BESS work?
This battery storage system will charge from the grid when energy demand is low or directly from our Creston solar project when renewable generation is abundant. It will then discharge energy when demand increases, such as on hot summer or cold winter days. The ability to capture and store energy to use when needed improves the overall reliability of renewable resources.
