720-MW Bobcat Energy Center unanimously approved

The Iowa Utilities Commission’s approval underscores Alliant Energy's commitment to growing communities through reliable, cost-effective energy solutions.

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (December 16, 2025) – Alliant Energy (NASDAQ: LNT) received approval to construct the 720-megawatt Bobcat Energy Center in Marshalltown. The natural gas-fired combustion turbine facility will be built adjacent to the company’s existing 650-megawatt Marshalltown Generating Station.

The Iowa Utilities Commission unanimously approved Alliant Energy’s Certificate of Public Convenience, Use and Necessity request.

“The development of the Bobcat Energy Center positions the region for growth and energy security for years to come. Unanimous siting approval reinforces our commitment to delivering reliable, cost-effective energy while strengthening the communities we serve,” said Mayuri Farlinger, president of Alliant Energy’s Iowa energy company and vice president of energy delivery.

“This milestone for the Bobcat Energy Center shows great momentum for the Marshalltown community in terms of economic development, from new construction jobs and tax revenue, to strengthening our capacity to attract new industrial and manufacturing opportunities,” said John Hall, president and CEO of the Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce. “Real growth begins with reliable, consistent access to energy.”

Throughout the regulatory approval process, the Bobcat Energy Center proposal earned strong backing from the Marshall County Board of Supervisors, the Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce, Central Iowa Building and Construction Trades, the Iowa Federation of Labor, LIUNA Local 177 and Operators Engineers Local 234. Leaders praised the project as a model of collaboration between the company and the community and highlighted its potential to drive new economic growth in the region.

When operational, the Bobcat Energy Center will serve as a flexible resource, activating as needed during periods of peak demand. Designed for rapid response, the facility will start and reach full load in less than 15 minutes. Importantly, the new facility will complement operations at the nearby Marshalltown Generating Station, working together to provide dependable, consistent energy for customers.

Adding natural gas generation is a key component of Alliant Energy’s comprehensive Energy Blueprint. As energy demand grows and technology evolves, the company is leading the way with a balanced strategy that combines traditional resources with renewable energy and battery storage solutions. This all-of-the-above approach ensures reliable service for customers and positions the communities it serves for economic growth.

The company anticipates construction to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with plans to be operational in 2029. For more information about Alliant Energy’s balanced energy portfolio, visit alliantenergy.com/energyblueprint
