Vice President – Generation
JP Brummond is Vice President of Generation at Alliant Energy Corporation (NASDAQ: LNT). He has over 30 years of experience in the utility industry, spanning a wide range of responsibilities and relationships with many great team members. He has enjoyed learning how coal, gas, hydro and nuclear plants operate, exploring the changes and opportunities available in energy market operations, and the challenges of a variety of challenging corporate support roles.
JP joined the company in 2002, with more than 10 years of prior experience working as a chemical engineer and supervisor in coal and nuclear power plants. His first position in the company was a financial engineer, in what is now the Energy Market Operations (EMO) Department. JP’s early initiatives included collaborating with IT to develop software for wholesale energy market interactions. He subsequently held various leadership roles in Generation, Customer Operations, Business Planning, Environmental, Resource Development, Engineering Solutions and Resource Planning. He also had oversight of corporate strategy, working closely with the executive team to implement the current company strategy.
In 2025, JP was named Vice President of Generation. The team under his leadership is responsible for safely and cost-effectively generating electricity for customers across Iowa and Wisconsin. His team oversees traditional generation, renewable generation and energy storage facilities that efficiently provide the power Alliant Energy’s customers rely on. In addition, his team is focused on guiding operational excellence initiatives for all areas of the company. He also has oversight of the generation engineering group, corporate incident response team and works closely with the company’s Safety Blue Hat program that supports generation.
JP is a long-time supporter of the company’s employee groups, serving as executive sponsor and helping to create a stronger employee community by fostering connections and learning opportunities. He also serves on the Energy Risk Management and Trading Committee (ERMTC) that is responsible for governance over many internal commodity management and trading processes and procedures.
Outside of work, JP serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) and on the Board of the Wisconsin River Power Company. He is also a member of the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC) Foundation Board, the Forward Janesville Board and is an emeritus member of the UW Madison Erdman Center Advisory Board.
JP holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
