Who is eligible to participate in the electric interruptible program?
Iowa commercial customers with the ability to curtail a minimum of 200 kilowatts (kW) during extreme electric load are eligible.
How does the program work?
- Our Systems Operations Center determines the need for curtailment. This typically happens during the summer.
- If we call for an interruption, we give a minimum of two hours' notice, per tariff requirements. We make every effort to provide as much advance notice as possible.
- We notify your company via our communication system. We send notifications simultaneously to multiple contacts within your company in the ways you choose, by phone, email or text. The notification provides both start and end times for the event.
- Your company reduces usage to a predetermined firm level.
- We do not disconnect your electric service.
- We notify your business when the curtailment period ends.
Can I cancel my participation in the program?
Your company may opt out of the interruptible program with 24-hour notice. Please note, applicable fees and penalties may apply. Reference the tariff rate sheet for more information.
