Oshkosh Solar is a project in development located in Winnebago County, west of the city of Oshkosh on selected land in the townships of Algoma, Nekimi, Utica and Omro. We anticipate the project will have a capacity of 130 megawatts (MW).

Alliant Energy continually plans for Wisconsin's energy future with a focus on reliability, cost-effectiveness and meeting our customers' evolving energy needs. Through our Energy Blueprint, we are investing in a balanced portfolio of resources, including natural gas, wind, solar, hydropower and energy storage, to help ensure a resilient electric system for years to come.

The panels for this project will be built on land that is voluntarily leased for the project. The project is not looking for additional land for panels.

The Oshkosh Solar project is expected to deliver:

  • Lease payments that provide participating landowners with a stable, predictable source of income while allowing families to make decisions that make sense for their land and family.
  • Increased local spending during construction, supporting area businesses such as hotels, restaurants, fuel stations, equipment suppliers and other service providers.
  • Local construction jobs that create opportunities for skilled workers and contractors in the region.
  • Additional economic activity like lease payments and construction-related spending circulate through the local economy, supporting businesses and jobs throughout Winnebago County.

Solar energy provides an increase in local tax revenues

Taxation for utility scale solar projects in Wisconsin is based on the revenue sharing formula, set in place by Wisconsin State legislation.

The total annual shared revenue payment is up to $5,000 per MW of solar installed in a community.

The Oshkosh Solar project is expected to have a nameplate capacity of around 130 MW, which equates to a total of more than $19.5 million in total tax revenue generated over the project’s 30-year lifespan.
