The Grant County battery energy storage system (BESS) is our first 100-megawatt (MW) system. Adjacent to our 200-MW solar project in Grant County, Wisconsin, the BESS can charge directly from the site when solar energy is abundant, or from the power grid itself.
The facility came online in fall 2025. It can power 100,000 homes up to four hours on a single charge.
What is a BESS?
A BESS is a large collection of batteries connected directly to the power grid. These facilities charge at night when demand is typically low and release energy during the day when demand is high. This helps us meet customer needs, reduces the need for traditional grid upgrades and strengthens reliability during outages and severe weather.
