What is workforce readiness?

We help prepare children and adults with the fundamental skills they need to grow into successful careers.

The Foundation looks for opportunities focused on literacy and reading programs, career preparation, agriculture education, library support, mentoring, leadership skills and STEM support.

Why do we support workforce readiness? 

Alliant Energy and the Alliant Energy Foundation are dedicated to six core values that guide everything we do.

Workforce readiness initiatives are part of our core values to act for tomorrow and care for others. 

What are we doing in this focus area? 

Below are some of our annual investments that impact the workforce readiness focus area. Many of these investments also offer our employees an opportunity to give back and engage in the communities we serve.

    The InventSTEM event at the 2022 Iowa State Fair brought together high school students from across Iowa to collaborate on a design for a solar-powered prototype. Our employees helped coach the groups and select winners.

    Alliant Energy has been a proud supporter of Make48 events in Wisconsin. Make48 is a nationwide invention competition that gives teams 48 hours to produce a creative product solution for a challenge. Here is Michelle Yun, a senior manager on strategy and electrification at Alliant Energy, who participated on a panel discussion during the event’s VIP night.

    Alliant Energy is a proud sponsor of the Wisconsin Science Festival. In 2022, we shared our graphic novel, the Power Chronicles, to help young students become and stay engaged in the STEM fields. We also handed out a science project – a DIY flashlight – for the students to build at home.

    In 2022, one of Alliant Energy’s videos won a Communicators Award in the diversity, equity and inclusion category. We made this video to encourage innovators of tomorrow – and today – to use their creativity and imagination to light the way to a sustainable future.

    A new Boys and Girls Club site is being established in Portage, Wisconsin. In 2022, The Alliant Energy Foundation made a $20,000 commitment to help empower today’s youth to become tomorrow’s leaders.

    The Alliant Energy Foundation supported iJAG with a $50,000 Impact Grant in 2022 to help students find their passion and purpose, graduate high school and earn careers with sustainable incomes. iJAG students at South Tama and Marshalltown High Schools visited our Technical Training Center in Marshalltown recently to learn more about our Energy Basics and Registered Apprenticeship programs.
