Iowa Tax Certificate Forms

Claiming 100% exempt

• Download the Iowa Sales Tax Exemption Certificate (Energy used in processing or agriculture) 31-113a 
• Email the completed form to ProjectAdvisor@alliantenergy.com

• Security lights are not metered. If you are claiming your security lights to be exempt, please inform us in your email.

Claiming under 100% exempt

• Download the Iowa Sales Tax Exemption Certificate (Energy used in processing or agriculture) 31-113a .pdf
• Also Download the Exemption Percentage Calculations worksheet for the utility to be exempt:
  • Electrical Exemption Percentage Calculations (Excel format)
  • Gas Exemption Percentage Calculations (Excel format)

• Fill out the Certificate and the Calculations worksheet and email them both to ProjectAdvisor@alliantenergy.com
• Security lights are not metered. If you are claiming your security lights to be exempt, please inform us in your email.

Iowa law requires that this tax exemption certificate be renewed every three years.

For tax collection purposes, we cannot adjust taxes calculated on accounts. If the exemption is not renewed on time and we collect sales tax on your account, you can file a Claim for Refund Form IA843 with the Iowa Department of Revenue to be reimbursed for any sales taxes you paid on your electric bill.
