  • Follow the instructions in the letter and schedule a time for a technician to exchange your equipment.
  • Ensure the area around your meter is easily accessible and clear of debris.

  • Your gas service will be shut off during the exchange and restored when the new meter is in place. We can usually exchange gas meters in approximately 60 minutes.

How to recognize Alliant Energy employees

Alliant Energy employees should always have their company badge with them to identify themselves as an employee. You’ll likely also see an Alliant Energy logo on their clothing, and they should be driving an Alliant Energy-branded truck.

If you are unsure about whether someone is an Alliant Energy employee, please call the contact on your letter and reschedule the appointment or confirm the name of the employee making the exchange with the scheduler.

After the exchange

If you were not at home, call the number on the door hanger to schedule a technician to relight pilot lights.

Does someone need to be home?

No, we can do the majority of the installation without you being at home. However, since we have to shut off gas service during the exchange, we will need to enter the home to relight any pilot lights once the exchange is completed.

In order to relight the pilot:

  • If someone over the age of 18 is home, we can immediately complete the process.
  • We can leave a hanger on your door with an explanation of the service completed.
  • Call us to send out a technician to your home to restore service.
