Before your exchange
-
You will receive a letter from Alliant Energy explaining that you have been chosen to upgrade your equipment at no cost.
- Follow the instructions in the letter and schedule a time for a technician to exchange your equipment.
- Ensure the area around your meter is easily accessible and clear of debris.
Day of exchange
- A technician will come at the scheduled time to replace your meter.
- Your gas service will be shut off during the exchange and restored when the new meter is in place. We can usually exchange gas meters in approximately 60 minutes.
- Our technician will need to enter your home to relight pilot lights on gas appliances. If someone over the age of 18 is home, we can enter and relight pilot lights to complete the process immediately.
How to recognize Alliant Energy employees
Alliant Energy employees should always have their company badge with them to identify themselves as an employee. You’ll likely also see an Alliant Energy logo on their clothing, and they should be driving an Alliant Energy-branded truck.
If you are unsure about whether someone is an Alliant Energy employee, please call the contact on your letter and reschedule the appointment or confirm the name of the employee making the exchange with the scheduler.
After the exchange
If you were not at home, call the number on the door hanger to schedule a technician to relight pilot lights.
