Robert J. Durian
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Robert Durian is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Alliant Energy Corporation (NASDAQ: LNT). Since joining the company in 1992, Robert has held responsibilities in several accounting and finance areas, including Controller, Treasurer and Chief Accounting Officer. He has served as Chief Financial Officer since 2016 and was named Senior Vice President in 2018. He was named Executive Vice President and CFO in 2020. As Executive Vice President and CFO, his expanded responsibilities also include oversight of IT and the company’s non-utility-based businesses.
Robert’s leadership and financial acumen have helped the company achieve sustained financial success with at least 5% annual earnings growth for more than a decade. In 2016, Robert led the development of a customer-focused strategy that is helping continue this remarkable financial consistency during a time of significant industry change. This strategy is built on work across all areas of the company to respond to changing customer needs and industry trends.
Robert has been instrumental in helping finance our strategic growth. As CFO, Robert has overseen the completion of a record volume of financings with more than $7 billion raised for customer-focused investments. An innovative mindset led to many financing firsts for the company, including issuing Green Bonds to finance our wind and solar expansion program, convertible debt to achieve lower interest costs and equity-forward transactions for new common equity.
Robert brings a financial discipline and strategic focus on controlling costs for customers to his work. This includes making the financial case for amending long-term agreements, advocating for legislative reforms and investing in new technologies to lower costs for our utility customers.
Across his various finance and accounting roles, Robert has also brought a focus on risk management, including helping develop an enhanced Enterprise Risk Management Program to ensure appropriate risk mitigation activities to protect the company.
Robert received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa in 1992 and became a Certified Public Accountant that same year. He received his MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2016.
