As 2022 comes to a close, we’re excited to share the progress we’ve made on our Clean Energy Blueprint this year as we look forward to even more success in 2023.
Alliant Energy recently placed 250 megawatts (MW) of utility-scale solar projects into service in Wisconsin. Our Bear Creek (50 MW), North Rock (50 MW) and Wood County (150 MW) sites will power approximately 65,000 homes annually. With these three projects, we’re now the largest owner-operator of solar energy in Wisconsin!
In Iowa, we filed for a generating certificate for solar projects in Creston and Wever as we continue to work toward our previously announced plan to build 400 MW of solar.
Our Alliant Energy® Customer-Hosted Renewables program had a successful year in Wisconsin. Our Iowa County Law Enforcement Center installation, Kohler Solar Field and City of Sheboygan Solar Field added 3.5 MW of solar.
We also broke ground on our 4.5-MW Cedar Rapids Community Solar Garden. It offers Iowa customers the opportunity to purchase solar blocks and receive monthly bill credits based on the site’s solar production.
What does this mean for you?
It means the energy going to your home or business is getting cleaner. We expect 50% of our energy generation to come from renewables by 2030. We expect next year to be our largest for solar installation to date. We’re making exciting progress on our Clean Energy Blueprint!
Renewable energy, particularly solar, is affordable, reliable and safe. You can feel good knowing we’re working in your best interest to deliver the energy you need through cost-effective renewable options.
What’s to come?
It’s just the start of an exciting few years of energy development across our service territory!
There’s much more to come in 2023. We expect:
- To complete up to 800 MW of utility-scale solar in Wisconsin.
- A decision from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin on battery projects in Wood and Grant counties.
- To place our Cedar Rapids Community Solar Garden into service.
- To break ground on numerous Customer-Hosted Renewables projects and, if approved, our initial Renewable Energy Partner project with Mercury Marine.
