Supporting our Veterans

Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, is a day to honor and thank all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. We recognize veterans for their bravery and sacrifice. We also recognize the challenges many face when they return home. Finding employment can be one such challenge.

Nearly 200,000 service members transition back to civilian life annually, many searching for employment. The energy industry offers unique opportunities for veterans, and it’s growing at a remarkable pace. It added over 300,000 jobs last year alone.

The energy industry is a great fit for vets
According to the Department of Energy, veterans make great solar energy employees because they’re trained to lead and assume responsibility, they’re mission-focused team players and hardworking individuals. The high-pressure nature of military service means veterans acquire many skills transferrable to the energy sector. Energy workers go out in dangerous situations such as extreme weather events. Both careers require incredible work ethic.

The safety culture so critical to military service is also critical to our work at Alliant Energy. Working at dizzying heights on a wind turbine or with advanced solar technology requires extreme attention to detail and dedication to safety protocol.

Find a career in renewable energy

The Solar Ready Vets Network is a great resource. It’s a group of programs designed to prepare veterans for a variety of roles including photovoltaic system installer, cybersecurity specialist, system inspector and many others.

Veterans can also look for their job code on our Military Career Matching Matrix to see what Alliant Energy career opportunities match up with their military skills and experience.

We support our veterans
Veterans help make our workforce strong. We value their dedication, loyalty and work ethic. You’ll find them in all areas of leadership in our company. We’re committed to creating an inclusive workplace through our Veterans Alliance Employee Resource Group, which recently hosted donation drives in both Madison and Cedar Rapids for the Freedom Foundation and the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans’ Hospital.

Be sure to thank a veteran today!
