Does your property have renewable energy potential?

Reaching a Clean Energy Future is no easy task, and we can’t do it alone. A hugely rewarding way for our customers to embrace clean energy solutions is to lease land to Alliant Energy for renewable energy projects. You’ll be helping yourself and your community by providing reliable energy, and you’ll be helping the environment by sustaining the environmental health of our planet.

Renewable energy is a stable and reliable way to create clean energy. As we’ve seen, coal and gas markets fluctuate, and there are consequences to being too dependent on them. Harnessing naturally available resources, such as wind and solar, allows us to be independent and have more control over how we get energy to customers. Plus, we’ll never run out of renewable energy!

Four reasons to lease your land to create energy:

  1. It helps your neighbors. Investing in the transition to renewable energy can directly impact those around you. The energy produced from your renewable energy site may help power your local grocery store, an elementary school, or even your neighbor’s home.
  2. It’s a steady and reliable income. When you choose to lease your land for a renewable energy project, we provide annual payments for use of your land for decades. Solar and wind energy don’t carry the risks associated with farming crops during a dry summer, so your payments will still come in regardless of the weather.
  3. It makes it easier to keep your land in the family. The overwhelming majority of our land-lease customers attribute their participation to the desire to keep their land in the family. When our solar projects are decommissioned (after about 30 years), the land will be returned to its normal state — or an even better state, thanks to our vegetation management plans. We also create pollinator friendly environments by planting native grasses between solar panels. Solar projects are reversible and less of a commitment than residential or commercial developments, so future generations will be able to use the land for farming purposes through our conservation efforts.
  4. You’re supporting local economic development. Renewable energy projects require many hands to make them a reality and they provide many new jobs. According to The Department of Energy’s Employment Report, jobs in the energy sector grew by 2.8% in 2021, which was faster than the U.S. workforce overall.
