As a Core Value, safety drives everything our employees do. Our employees must think about safety every day while they work hard to keep your lights on and gas flowing.
As the third-largest utility owner-operator of regulated wind in the United States, Alliant Energy wind crews work tirelessly to make safety a priority. Because of this unwavering attention to safety matters, our wind energy teams have gone 14 years without a serious safety event. Our Wisconsin solar utility-scale sites have reported over 600,000 hours worked on-site to date, and we have had one reported injury. This rate is nearly 10x lower than the national average.
Kent Sodawasser, Lead Corporate Safety Specialist, knows how important it is to cultivate a culture of safety. He works with his peers to develop stronger safety initiatives in an industry that sometimes requires its employees to operate in harsh conditions, restrictive workspaces and at dizzying heights.
“As our safety culture continues to evolve, it is not all about rules and regulations but more about showing employees the personal value in working safe,” Kent said. “We communicate to employees that we care about their well-being, both physically and mentally, because we want them to make it home safe every day.”
After all, workplace injuries don’t only affect the employee — an incident can impact loved ones and co-workers as well, so Alliant Energy works hard to eliminate or reduce workplace hazards.
We believe safety initiatives directly impact the well-being of employees and must be made a priority in every workplace. Our teams’ dedication to safety makes it possible for us to work toward clean energy solutions for the customers we serve.
