Tackling 2023: Crush your goals with us

Sticking to a New Year’s resolution is no easy task — they can feel demanding and time-consuming. But setting and achieving a goal is an amazing way to measure your success and achieve deep personal fulfillment! As we reflect on our progress and upcoming plans towards creating a Clean Energy Future, we hope we can send a little motivation your way for your own goals for the new year.

Staying committed

Recent polls show Americans are becoming less likely to set and reach New Year’s resolutions. Though this can sound discouraging, there’s been a shift to goal setting. Reaching a goal shows dedication and adds meaning to your life. To stay committed to a goal means you are giving your all to make a significant and lasting change.

Our Clean Energy Blueprint is one way we’re showing commitment to the transition to a brighter future for our customers. There are two key aspirational goals that will help us get there: achieving net-zero carbon dioxide emissions from electricity we generate by 2050, and eliminating all coal from our generation fleet by 2040…which is 10 years earlier than initially planned.

These goals can seem daunting, but it will be so rewarding to know we’ve given it our all. Consistency and commitment deserve to be celebrated!

Remembering the end goal

The reason many New Year’s resolutions fall through is because they can become time consuming, straining and feel like too much work. Keeping the end result in the back of your mind helps you reflect on and recommit to the goals you’ve set to better your life.

Our end goal is to reach net-zero carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from the electricity we generate by 2050. While we have taken many steps to reach this goal, it is important to revisit why we’re pursuing this goal. Our reasons include sustaining the economic and environmental health of the communities we serve-- and pursuing clean energy solutions is the path we’ll take to get there.

Celebrating every win

Whether you hope to stay consistent at the gym or improve your mental health, celebrating the little wins is an amazing way to practice positivity and give yourself a little encouragement.

We know we have a while to go until we’ll be able to safely retire coal from our generation fleet, but it’s important to acknowledge the accomplishments we’ve had thus far. So far, we’ve retired 1,100 megawatts of coal, meaning thousands of homes we power are now receiving clean energy! And, we have a plan for being fully out of coal in Wisconsin by mid-2026.

Focusing on accomplishing a goal is a thoroughly self-fulfilling and rewarding process. Let’s tackle our 2023 goals and resolutions together to achieve a healthier and happier future!
