Foundation awards $70K to tree restoration in Sheboygan

Alliant Energy’s Foundation awarded $700,000 to the Sheboygan Rotary Club’s Restoration Of Our Trees Sheboygan (ROOTS) initiative. The gift will help plant 700 trees over the next three years.

The Sheboygan Rotary Club, the City and County of Sheboygan and Alliant Energy teamed up at Optimist Park to plant the first trees of the multi-phase ROOTS restoration project. The goal of the initiative is to restore trees lost to the emerald ash borer in nine public parks in Sheboygan. The planting event was also one of our tree planting events to kick off our One Million Trees initiative.

“The important work of the ROOTS initiative directly connects to our focus on environmental stewardship that has strong impacts in the communities we proudly serve,” said Adam Erdmann, Senior Community Affairs Program Manager. “With the trees we plant in collaboration with ROOTS today, we set into motion a decade of opportunity. This is just one more way Alliant Energy serves our customers and builds stronger communities.”

In addition to providing shade, as these trees grow, they will naturally reduce greenhouse gases, improve water quality, provide wildlife habitats and make the future brighter and greener for our customers and communities.
