Bent Tree Wind Farm

The Bent Tree Wind Farm is located near Albert Lea in Freeborn County, Minnesota. It began commercial operation in February 2011.

  • Land span: Approximately 32,500 acres

Cedar Ridge Wind Farm

Cedar Ridge Wind Farm is located in the towns of Eden and Empire in Fond du Lac County, Wis. It began commercial operation in December 2008.

  • Nameplate capacity: 68 megawatts (enough to power approximately 17,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 41
  • Land span: Approximately 7,800 acres

The Operations building at Cedar Ridge earned a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Franklin County Wind Farm

Franklin County Wind Farm is located in Franklin County, Iowa. It began commercial operation in 2012.

  • Nameplate capacity: 99 megawatts (enough to power approximately 25,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 60
  • Land span: Approximately 18,000 acres

Whispering Willow Wind Farm

The Whispering Willow Wind Farm is located in Franklin County, Iowa. It began commercial operation in December 2009.

  • Nameplate capacity: 200 megawatts (enough to power approximately 50,000 homes)
  • Number of turbines: 121
  • Land span: Approximately 33,000 acres

Wind farms we purchase energy from

We purchase nearly 600 megawatts of wind energy from wind farms across Iowa, southern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Top of Iowa Wind Farm

  • Location: Near Joice, in Worth County, Iowa
  • Amount of power purchased: 80 megawatts (enough to power approximately 20,000 homes)

This facility was co-developed by Zilkha Renewable Energy and Midwest Renewable Energy Corporation, with turbines purchased from NEG Micon.

Hancock County Wind Energy Center

  • Location: Hancock County, Iowa
  • Amount of power purchased: 56 megawatts

The facility is owned and operated by Florida Power and Light Company (FPL).

Storm Lake Wind Power Facility

  • Location: Alta, in Buena Vista County, Iowa
  • Amount of power purchased: 80 megawatts (enough to power approximately 20,000 homes)

Cerro Gordo Wind Farm

  • Location: Near Ventura, in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa
  • Amount of power purchased: 42 megawatts (enough to power approximately 10,500 homes)

Flying Cloud Wind Farm

  • Location: Near Spirit Lake, in Dickinson County, Iowa
  • Amount of power purchased: 44 megawatts (enough to power approximately 11,000 homes)

Flying Cloud Wind Farm is owned by PPM Energy and operated by GE Energy.

Hardin Hilltop Wind Farm

  • Location: Hardin Township, in Greene County, Iowa
  • Amount of power purchased: 15 megawatts

Montfort Wind Farm

  • Location: Near Montfort, in Iowa County, Wisconsin
  • Amount of power purchased: 4.5 megawatts

Forward Wind Energy Center

  • Location: Dodge and Fond du Lac Counties, Wisconsin
  • Amount of power purchased: 27.5 megawatts

The Forward Wind Energy Center was developed by and is owned by Invenergy Wind LLC out of Chicago, Illinois.

Windom Wind Farm

  • Location: Near Windom, in Cottonwood County, Minnesota
  • Amount of power purchased: 19.8 megawatts

The Windom Wind Farm is owned by a farmers’ cooperative.

Sieve Wind Farm

  • Location: Nobles County, Minnesota
  • Amount of power purchased: 0.95 megawatts (enough electricity to power approximately 250 homes a year)

We contracted with Northern Alternative Energy to develop this facility, which contains a single 0.95-megawatt turbine. It stands on the 220-acre farm owned by Leon and Dolores Sieve.

We also purchase smaller amounts of wind energy from the following wind farms in Iowa:
