Community Grants

We fund projects that fit into one of our three focus areas: Helping Families, Education and the Environment. Review the general guidelines, learn about our areas of focus and find out how to request a grant.

Rise to the challenge, and we'll award your community a grant for a specific, safety-related project.

Employee and retiree programs

The Foundation’s Matching Gifts Program continues to be our largest program each year. Each eligible donation, made by Alliant Energy employees or retirees, of $50 or more (up to an annual individual maximum of $2,500) to any qualifying educational or charitable organization located within Iowa, Wisconsin or Minnesota is matched dollar-for-dollar.

In 2014, employees, retirees and Board Members of Alliant Energy Corporation enhanced their generosity with over 3,500 gift requests to the Matching Gifts Program. Through this remarkable partnership with the Alliant Energy Foundation, over $1 million was contributed to charitable organizations.

Through its Volunteer Program, the Alliant Energy Foundation recognizes and rewards personal involvement by current employees and retirees of Alliant Energy and its family of companies.

Program participants who give their own time to support a wide array of causes and events in their communities are eligible to provide grants of up to $400 annually to eligible charitable organizations within the states we serve.

Grants are awarded once per year for as few as 50 hours of volunteer work per 12-month period.

In 2014, employees and retirees of Alliant Energy were awarded $126,800 in recognition of their 96,700 volunteer hours.

The Points of Light Foundation places a value of $22.55 on each volunteer hour. This equates to a financial impact of more than $2.2 million going back into our communities through the volunteer service of our employees and retirees.

United Way

Each year, the Alliant Energy Foundation and employees and retirees of Alliant Energy place a high priority on enthusiastically supporting the United Way.

Living United means working together to advance the common good. This past year, the Foundation provided more than $600,000 in contributions to United Way organizations throughout Alliant Energy’s utility service territory.

Nearly 1,600 Alliant Energy employees and retirees gave their time, energy and contributions to the annual United Way campaign, resulting in more than $1.28 million to 74 different United Way, Community Chest and Variety Club organizations. Additionally, employees advocated for participation from their peers in local fundraising events.
