How do I apply?

Visit our online application system and view available careers. To apply, check the corresponding box by the position(s) you’re interested in and select “Apply to Job(s).”

Can I email or mail you my resume?

We cannot accept emailed, faxed or mailed resumes or applications.

Who can I contact if I need assistance due to a disability?

If you need assistance completing this application because of a medical condition that may qualify as a disability under the American Disabilities Act, please call (608) 458-8458 to request accommodation. You may be asked to provide documentation to support your request.

Can I apply for more than one position at a time?

Yes! Check the corresponding boxes by the positions you’re interested in and click select “Apply for Job(s)”. When you apply for multiple jobs simultaneously, you will only complete one application in the system. However, you may be asked to answer additional questions depending on the positions you’re interested in. You may apply for up to 10 jobs at once.

How do I notify you if I change my address or phone number?

Update your contact information by logging in with your email and password to our application portal. Select “My Profile” to change your address, phone number, email address and more.

How can I make sure I find out about new job openings?

Set up a Job Search Agent to save your preferred search criteria. You will be automatically notified of new positions as they get posted that may match your area of interests.

I applied for a job yesterday. I see another job that I want to apply for today. Will I have to fill out all my information again?

Once you’ve created an account, all future applications are quick and easy by using the information you’ve already entered. If you want to change any of your information or use a different resume for the new position, you can do that. Also, some positions may ask you to answer specific questions.

I’m an Alliant Energy employee. Where do I apply?

Alliant Energy employees should apply through The Compass intranet.

How long will it take to apply?

If you have a resume prepared, it should take less than 10 minutes.

Do I have to answer all of the questions?

It is best to complete every question to make sure we have all the information about your education, skills and experience.

Can I attach my resume instead of pasting it into the form?

Yes. After you select a job and select “Apply for Job(s)”, you will be asked to either upload a resume or “copy and paste” resume text.

Are there any rules about attaching files?

Please use your own name when you title the document (e.g., Jane Doe Resume) and do not use any special characters, like () [] {} - , ‘ ; / \ and <>. Also note that file attachments cannot be larger than 2 MB and must have a file extension of .doc, .docx, .rtf, .pdf or .txt.

For future positions, you will be able to select a new resume and submit a new application.

What if I don’t have my own computer or email account?

State job-service agencies and most community libraries have public-access computers you can use to apply online. The staff at these locations can assist you with setting up a free email account.

What if I forget my login information for the online application portal?

Your login ID is your email address. If you forget your password, select “Forgot your password?”. The password will be reset and sent to the email address on file.

I can’t access the online application system. Now what?

Please make sure your browser pop-up blocker is turned off. Or our system may be down at times for maintenance and/or other technical support issues. If you are unable to access the online system, please try again at another time.

After applying, when can I expect to receive a response?

You'll receive an automated email indicating that your application has been submitted. Once the application deadline expires, we will review each submission. If there is a match between your qualifications/career goals and the position, an Alliant Energy representative will contact you within two to three weeks after the position closes. Please note that any position that is part of a union does require consideration of internal applicants first per contract, which may cause delays.

How do I prepare for an interview?

At Alliant Energy, the interviews may include job-specific and behavioral questions. In preparation, you’ll want to consider your skill set and experiences, matching them to the requirements of the positions as indicated in the job description. Prepare a number of examples of situations you have experienced that can be applied to various behavioral questions, keeping in mind our corporate competencies:

Will I have to take a drug test or physical?

If an offer is extended, you will be asked to complete a drug test for all positions and a physical if applicable.
