Alliant Energy and ACEC work together for students
Combined donation helps area students start new school year on the right foot
BEAVER DAM, Wis. – August 22, 2018 – Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative (ACEC) and Alliant Energy are no strangers to doing good in the community. This week, they’ve partnered on a $6,000 donation to help Clothes for Kids outfit local students for the new school year.
Clothes for Kids is a Beaver Dam clothing exchange program. Member families bring their children to “shop” and try on clothing, taking what they need at no charge. When the child has outgrown the clothes, the family comes back, selecting new clothes and returning the old ones.
Originally, Clothes for Kids reached out to ACEC’s Operation Round-Up® program for a $3,000 gift. ACEC agreed – then asked Alliant Energy to match it with another $3,000. The $6,000 combined gift will help Clothes for Kids during their busiest season: back to school.
“Clothes that fit are so important for a child’s confidence, especially going into a new grade,” said Jodi Walsh-Slowiak, executive director at Clothes for Kids. “The gift from Alliant Energy and ACEC will specifically help with shoes and school supplies, which are essential for keeping kids active and learning.”
A child visiting Clothes for Kids will typically receive multiple shirts, pants, socks, underwear, grooming items, two pairs of shoes and seasonal items such as a coat. Through the organization’s back-to-school program, students can also receive school supplies and backpacks.
Clothes for Kids expects to help around 1,100 families get prepared for the new school year, giving student what they need to start school strong.
