Spending time on the lake this summer? Be sure to brush up on #BoatSafety before you go. Here are a 6 tips for staying safe on the water:
- Know your sailboat mast height and the power line clearance.
- Watch for power lines when towing, launching, boating and fishing. Keep all parts of your boat 10 feet away from power lines and cast your fishing line away from them.
- Keep an eye out for and avoid underwater electrical cables, especially when anchoring.
- Have electrical systems of docks inspected by an electrician annually.
- Don’t swim near boats plugged into shore power or docks with electrical service.
- Stay away from anything that has had contact with a power line or electrical source. If your mast does touch a power line, stay in the boat and call a professional for help.
