Our online Corporate Responsibility Report (CRR) highlights another step forward in advancing clean energy throughout the communities we serve. We are working hard to take actions today so we can responsibly and sustainably serve all of our customers well into the future. The CRR is a resource for our customers, communities and other partners. It includes our clean energy vision, interesting stories as well as performance data covering a wide range of topic areas.
Our company has a vision to not only power beyond the challenges of today, but to power what’s next in energy. This means finding innovative ways to address environmental challenges, operate more efficiently and provide flexible energy resources.
It is important that we work to sustain the economic and environmental health of the communities we serve. We’re excited to share our responsibility story with you! Our 2020 CRR is now live and it can be viewed at alliantenergy.com/responsibility.
Alliant Energy Foundation’s Adam Erdmann shares about the best part of his job.
This spring, our Alliant Energy Foundation awarded grants to 237 nonprofits, totaling nearly $550,000. We caught up with Adam Erdmann at the Alliant Energy Foundation to learn more.
Illuminate: This spring, the Foundation awarded grants to 237 nonprofits. What does a grant do?
Adam: A grant is a donation that supports specific programming from an organization. We support programs within our Foundation focus areas: Families, Education and the Environment. We also put an emphasis on efforts supporting diversity, equity and inclusion.
Illuminate: How has COVID-19 changed what “community support” looks like?
Adam: We’ve always been a big supporter of food pantries, housing and shelter. Now with COVID, basic-needs services are even more critical. Our support is helping those organizations scale up all their great work.
Illuminate: You work with a lot of organizations. How do you keep it personal?
Adam: Relationships with our nonprofits are very important. I try to get to know our partners on a personal level. But even if I can’t meet with groups one on one, I’m building relationships with our partners around the state. We stay in touch over phone and email, and now of course we do more videoconference meetings.
Illuminate: What’s the best part of your job?
Adam: Getting a heartwarming story or photo from a project we support. It’s rewarding to work closely with an organization throughout the year and develop a project together. In some cases, relationships that started at work now make it rewarding to volunteer at those same organizations on my personal time. The people become not just professional contacts but colleagues and friends.
