Retro-commissioning Study

A program for our business customers in Iowa.

Refine your system controls to run at peak performance

Are you a facilities manager or building owner looking to optimize the performance of the systems in your building? A Retro-commissioning (RCx) Study could be the perfect solution. As an incentive, we may be able to reimburse up to 100% of the study cost. It’s a smart investment that can yield significant benefits for your building operations and your budget.

What’s an RCx study?

An RCx study is a thorough checkup to ensure a system in your facility is running as intended.

It helps identify areas of improvement and implement corrective measures to optimize performance, safety and comfort – and your bottom line.

Benefits

We’ll reimburse up to 100% of the study cost, and the results can help you:

  • Improve equipment lifecycle and extend service life.
  • Increase occupant comfort, safety and productivity.
  • Optimize building process systems and equipment operation to meet current facility requirements.
  • Improve your ability to benchmark and track energy performance.

Common measures

RCx studies identify actionable measures and steps that include, but are not limited to:

  • Adjusting control set points.
  • Lighting controls optimization.
  • Optimizing building operating schedules.

Requirements

The following requirements are in place to qualify for a retro-commissioning study.

  • Facility must receive electricity and/or natural gas as an Alliant Energy customer in Iowa.
  • Facility must be greater than 20,000 square feet.
  • Direct digital controls system or process controls must be between two and 10 years old and not in need of repairs.
  • No major renovation plans for the system are under consideration.

How it works

  1. Complete and submit the RCx preliminary screening form. A representative will contact you to get more information about your facility and provide a proposal detailing the scope and cost of the study.
  2. We’ll work with your building’s owners and staff to evaluate your facility’s building management system and energy use to identify improvement opportunities. You'll receive a written report with recommended changes, project costs and information about paybacks and rebates.
  3. We’ll reimburse 50% of the RCx study cost upon its completion.
  4. Consider the recommended projects. Once you decide what is right for your facility, schedule the approved projects with your contractor.
  5. Once complete, we’ll verify implementation and reimburse the remaining 50% of the study cost. Participants must implement all energy-saving measures that have a combined payback of two years or less, with no individual measure having a payback greater than five years.
