Alliant Energy encourages customers to be ‘security-smart’ as flooding threatens
Customers should report suspicious activity to local authorities
Alliant Energy encourages its customers to be alert for any suspicious activities related to their energy service. While the company has not received any credible reports of these types of activities occurring in areas impacted by flooding, customers need to stay ‘security-smart’ by practicing the following tips:
- Beware of the possibility of imposters posing as Alliant Energy workers. Alliant Energy does not charge for flood-related disconnects and reconnects.
- Customers approached by utility workers should ask to see an official Alliant Energy identification card or badge. Utility workers who are assisting Alliant Energy will also have official identification.
- Do NOT provide personal or financial information and call 1-800-ALLIANT (1-800-255-4268) if you are uncertain the ‘worker’ is from Alliant Energy.
- Alliant Energy does NOT contact electricians on behalf of customers to make wiring or electrical repairs on your home or business in order to have electric service disconnected or restored.
- Call 1-800-ALLIANT to verify the situation and report suspicious persons or activities.
- Contact local law enforcement immediately to report suspicious activity.
- Write down license numbers and description of suspicious persons or vehicles.
- If possible, keep an eye on your neighbors’ property and report suspicious activity.
Anyone experiencing flooding should call 1-800-ALLIANT to have electric and natural gas service turned off at no charge.
