What is an E-Community?

An E-Community is a partnership that encourages all community members – residents, government, businesses and industries – to develop and implement energy management initiatives that save money, create jobs and improve the environment.

E-Community

E = Energy

The E-Community program is a pilot program sponsored by Alliant Energy-Interstate Power and Light Co. (IP&L) which promotes wise energy use on a community-wide basis.

This partnership encourages all community members to focus attention toward energy-efficient improvements that save money, create jobs and improve the environment

E = Easy Rewards

Through the E-Community partnership, Alliant Energy-IP&L provides incentives to select communities that develop plans and accomplish goals based on energy efficiency and waste reduction efforts.

The community and its members benefit in many ways including:

  • Reduced energy expenditures
  • Improved business productivity
  • Enhanced comfort
  • Increased profitability
  • Advanced employment prospects
  • Greater protection of the environment

Successfully implementing energy-efficiency projects will earn the participating E-Community financial rewards from Alliant Energy-IP&L — rewards that can be used to benefit the entire community as approved by the community partner.

E = Everyone

The E-Community program is intended to involve all levels of the community — area industries, businesses, government agencies, educational institutions, non-profit organizations and residents.

Alliant Energy works closely with E-Community coordinators and local advisory committees, which include employers, union representatives and other community leaders. The coordinator and advisory committee in each community will develop a progressive action plan, outlining community goals, identifying projects and monitoring progress.

Initiatives can include everything from hosting educational events and utilizing rebate programs to promoting appliance recycling and supporting renewable energy.

E = Efficiency

Energy efficiency is defined as delivering the same (or more) services for less energy. Energy-efficient solutions can reduce costs for many homeowners and businesses by 20 percent to 30 percent.*

It is widely accepted that energy efficiency is the most immediate and economical solution to energy-related issues. Additionally, when less energy is used by the community, power plants reduce their output which improves the quality of our air.

Did you know that, for the average home, energy use is responsible for twice as much pollution as the average car?* So whether you are a homeowner or a business, wise energy use will lower your energy costs as well as improve the environment.

It also stimulates the local economy as dollars saved through energy efficiency can be redirected elsewhere in the community. In addition, communities benefit directly from financial awards given by Alliant Energy-IP&L.
