Appliance Recycling

For Alliant Energy’s residential electric customers in Iowa

Keeping an old working appliance in your basement or garage may seem like a convenience – but if you compare its energy consumption with the amount of use it actually provides, it might not add up to such a bargain.

If you have a working refrigerator, freezer or room air conditioner you don’t need, give us a call!

We’ll send a recycling contractor to pick up and dispose of your old appliance properly – and we’ll give you a check for $35.

How does the program work?

We'll send a recycling contractor to pick up and properly dispose of your old appliance. We'll either send you a check for $35 or donate $35 to help local families in need pay their heating bills, your choice!

PLEASE NOTE: Appliances must be in working order and currently in use.

Why should I recycle my old appliance?

Keeping a spare refrigerator or freezer running can add more than $100 a year to your electric bill. It's also a safety hazard if you have small children in your family.

In addition, it's important to make sure old refrigerators and freezers are disposed of carefully - the freon used as the refrigerant can harm the environment.

How many appliances can I recycle?

Alliant Energy-IPL will pay for a maximum of two refrigerators, two freezers and two room air conditioners per address.
