Success Story: Farmers Electric CooperativeFrytown, Iowa
|
Farmers Electric Cooperative experienced difficulties with a fleet truck. Two repair shops replaced several parts, but were unable to resolve the problem. Warren McKenna, general manager of the Cooperative, brought the truck to the Alliant Energy Fleet Services facility in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where a service technician discovered and fixed the problem. |
“The truck has been starting without any difficulties ever since,” said McKenna. McKenna has used fleet services in the past and has been very pleased with the results each time. “The Cedar Rapids Fleet Shop is the best,” he said. “We are very impressed and appreciative that the truck is running again.
Success Story: DeForest Volunteer Fire DepartmentDeForest, Wisconsin
The village of DeForest lacks a garage that can perform regular Department of Transportation checkups and periodic repair of the township's seven fire trucks. So each time a vehicle needed attention, volunteer firefighters had to take it out of service for a day or more and drive it 15 miles to Madison. The department turned to Alliant Energy Fleet Services for help. "We found that they offer quality inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs," said Fire Chief Dave Arnold. "They've handled all of our mechanical and preventive maintenance, repairs and DOT inspections ever since." |

"Our trucks are now taken to the Alliant Energy garage in nearby Poynette on a regular basis. They work all shifts, so the work is usually done in a matter of hours, not days - and timeliness is very important to us," Arnold said. With a large number of vehicles and a small number of volunteers, the department also found it difficult to keep all of its maintenance records in order. Under the Fleet Services agreement, Alliant Energy now keeps all of that information in its files. "I can request copies for a specific vehicle or for the whole fleet. I no longer have to keep track of which vehicle needs servicing and when. Fleet Services certainly saves me a great deal of time and energy," Arnold said. "We've been very satisfied with our Fleet Services agreement. It keeps us ready to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day," Arnold said. "I would recommend that other municipalities take advantage of this great Alliant Energy service."
Success Story: Adams-Columbia Electric CooperativeFriendship, Wisconsin"For the past decade, Alliant Energy has serviced our 400 Series vehicles,” said Ken Miller, manager of transportation and safety.
|
“Alliant Energy technicians have the equipment to inspect bucket truck mechanisms, digger-derrick trucks and truck chassis,” Miller explained. “If repairs are needed, Alliant Energy is better equipped than we are to do most of them." "Twice a year, couriers drive our vehicles to the nearest Alliant Energy Fleet Services Center in Poynette for servicing. We can schedule our maintenance as it suits our needs. After the complete inspection of each unit, repairs are made and the trucks are returned to us in prime condition," Miller added. |
"One of the benefits of this preventive maintenance program is less downtime," he said. "Another benefit is that Alliant Energy has more resources and more specialized tools to fix our trucks. Their employees have a great deal of experience and they have the diagnostic equipment that helps them identify problem areas." "Alliant Energy provides good people to work with,” Miller said. “I highly recommend their Fleet Services Preventive Maintenance program."
Success Story: Ogden Municipal UtilitiesOgden, IowaOgden Municipal Utilities has been utilizing Alliant Energy Fleet Services since the program began.
|
"Alliant Energy services three of our vehicles," said Dan Wilson. "They keep our equipment operating like new, even though some of it may be close to 20 years old." "Alliant Energy keeps track of when our trucks need to be serviced," Wilson said. "They keep us apprised of what's going on in the industry and what needs to be done in terms of OSHA requirements." |
"Alliant Energy has rebuilt our digger derrick truck and our bucket truck according to OSHA requirements," Wilson said. "Since that truck includes a bucket that our employees use, keeping it in top condition is of utmost importance to use." "Alliant Energy has super people out here in the field,” Wilson said. “There is always a feeling of cooperation between Alliant Energy and the smaller utilities like us. Alliant Energy is always willing to help us out."
Success Story: Elkhorn Light & WaterElkhorn, WisconsinThe City of Elkhorn started using Alliant Energy Fleet Services in the fall of 2000. They didn't have an in-house mechanic on staff, so they previously had to schedule our maintenance check-ups at a local dealership.
That arrangement was inconvenient because the vehicles were out of commission for a day or more while they were being repaired or maintained. Now, an Alliant Energy mechanic comes for two days every month and works on the Elkhorn vehicles at their own facility. At Elkhorn, Alliant Energy Fleet Services cares for eight snowplows, four pick-ups, two front-end loaders, one backhoe, a brush chipper, a sewer-jetting machine, six police squad cars, one police pick-up and an SUV. |
|
"The Alliant Energy mechanic works after 3:30 p.m. when my workmen go home," Lange said. "That way our trucks aren't tied up during the day. They're available during the time the line crew needs them to get their work done. "You can't beat Alliant Energy Fleet Services for convenience and cost savings. With this program, you can't go wrong."
