How solar works graphic

The photovoltaic (PV) solar panels capture the energy from the sun. The energy from panels is then combined in a conjunction box. The energy is then brought to the inverter where it changes from direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). AC electricity is ultimately what we use in our homes and businesses. Alliant Energy has a monitoring system at each of the inverters to ensure the panels are working properly and if maintenance is needed. From there, the electricity is brought to the project substation, where it is all collected and stepped up to get onto the grid. Transmission lines bring the electricity to the grid and eventually your home or business.
