Clock Programmable Thermostat Calculator

To adjust the temperature, click the up and down arrows on the thermostat. Your estimated savings will be listed below. To switch between heating and cooling, click on the thermostat's Heat and Cool buttons.

Customers in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin may be eligible to get cash-back rewards on clock-programmable thermostats.

Alliant Energy recommends setting your clock-programmable thermostat back by 10 degrees for eight hours a day (while you are at work or sleeping). Every degree you set back for eight hours will save you one percent on your heating and cooling costs.

NOTES:

  1. It is difficult to know your average annual heating and cooling costs, as they are only a portion of your utility bill. This is why dollar amounts representing the average annual heating and cooling costs for an Alliant Energy customer (as recorded in 2008) will auto-fill into the calculator. You can adjust these numbers if you like.
  2. Savings Calculation Formula: The average annual heating bill was calculated by dividing the average annual natural gas bill of Alliant Energy customers in 2008 by 80 percent (the amount of a residential natural gas bill dedicated to heating costs). The average annual cooling bill was calculated by dividing the average annual electric bill of Alliant Energy customers in 2008 by 20 percent (the amount of a residential electric bill dedicated to cooling costs).
