Budget Billing

Balancing your budget can be a juggling act, but with Alliant Energy's Budget Billing program, you can spread heating and cooling costs over the entire year.

You'll pay the same amount each month so you can budget effectively - with no seasonal surprises.

What is Budget Billing?

Budget Billing
spreads your energy costs evenly over a 12-month period, so you know in advance how much your payment will be. The amount you pay is calculated based on the average amount billed at your address over the past 12 months.

To keep your payments accurate, your account is reviewed every six months, and the monthly bill amount is adjusted if necessary. If there's a significant difference, we'll adjust your monthly budget amount up or down accordingly.

If you used more energy than you paid for, you'll owe us - the amount owed will be divided by 12 and added to your new budget amount.

If you used less energy than you paid for, we'll owe you - your future budget bills will be adjusted appropriately.

If you just moved in, you may want to establish your own usage history before enrolling in the plan, or we can estimate a budget amount.

Eligibility

Eligibility for the Budget Billing program is defined by individual state regulatory tariffs.

Wisconsin:
Residential customers and commercial accounts that provide residential living, such as apartment buildings are eligible for the program. This program is not available to “non-residential living” commercial or industrial customers.

Iowa:
Residential, rural or small non-residential general service customers whose consumption is less than 3,000 kWh per month (electric) and/or less than 250 therms per month (gas) are eligible to participate in Budget Billing. Consuming at higher levels may cause customers to lose eligibility.

Terms and Conditions

Participants are required to pay their monthly Budget amount in a timely manner or they may be removed from the Budget Billing program. The monthly Budget amount is the amount customers should pay each month. Payments made in excess of the monthly Budget amount will be applied to the actual billed usage amounts due.

Monthly Budget amounts will be reviewed at least annually, and may be reviewed semi-annually. Adjustments may be made if the calculated new monthly bill payment deviates by plus or minus 10 percent from the current monthly Budget payment.

Your proposed Budget Billing monthly payment is available in My Account, a web self-service tool. Look for the Budget Billing enrollment option.
