Alliant Energy honored by United Way of Dane County
Foundation, company and employees recognized with volunteer award
In April 2011, Alliant Energy and the Alliant Energy Foundation were presented with the United Way of Dane County's Business Volunteer Network Award at this year's United Way Community Volunteer Awards luncheon event in Madison, Wisconsin. The honor annually recognizes a business that illustrates the spirit of volunteerism and corporate philanthropy.
Alliant Energy was cited for having employees and retirees who volunteer their time and talents to local schools, churches and community groups, as well as other efforts such as tree planting, safety education and speakers bureau programs. The Alliant Energy Foundation was mentioned as a group that donates to a wide variety of campaigns and encourages employee giving with matching funds. It was noted during the award presentation ceremony that Alliant Energy employees and retirees volunteered over 87,000 hours in 2010, which would equate to a financial impact of $1.82 million.
“I continue to be proud of our employees and retirees and the contributions they make to the United Way, as well as the hours they put in to help out those in need across our service territories,” said Bill Harvey, Alliant Energy Chairman and CEO. “This recognition of both our company and Foundation illustrates that we are a business that believes in the Core Value of Service and that we take seriously the commitment we have to make our communities better places to live and work.”
In May 2011, United Way of Dane County representatives visited Alliant Energy's headquarters and officially presented the Business Volunteer Network Award to the company.
