Questions about the application process
How do I apply for a posted job opening?
You can view open positions and apply electronically using our online application system:
View job postings and apply for a position
To view all open positions, just click the “View All” link. To apply, check the corresponding box by the position(s) you’re interested in and click the “Apply Now” button.
I don’t see a job that suits me, can I submit my resume anyway?
Of course! You can get your resume into the system by using the “Apply now without adding a job” link on the bottom left of the front career screen. After uploading it, be sure to set up a Job Agent so you are notified of jobs that you can apply for using your resume (or uploading a new one). You will greatly improve your chances of being considered if you apply for a job, rather than assuming we can tie your resume to a job opening you might be interested in.
Can I e-mail or mail you my resume?
Jobs can only be applied for online, which is why we created an easy and quick way to apply from any Internet-ready computer. You can use a computer for free, and perhaps even get some help, at almost all libraries and job centers. Unfortunately, we cannot accept e-mailed, faxed or mailed resumes or applications.
Who can I contact if I need assistance due to a disability?
If you need assistance completing this application because of a medical condition that may qualify as a disability under the American Disabilities Act, please call (608) 458-8458 to request accommodation. You may be asked to provide documentation to support your request.
Can I apply for more than one position at a time?
Yes – just check the corresponding boxes by the positions you’re interested in and click the “Apply Now” button.
When you apply for multiple jobs simultaneously, you will only complete one application in the system. However, you may be asked to answer additional questions depending on the positions you’re interested in.
Will my submitted application be considered for other open positions?
It may, but you will greatly improve your chances by applying. That is why it is a good idea to set up a Job Agent so you are notified of new postings in your areas of interest. Once you’ve created an account and have a resume uploaded, it is very quick and easy to apply for new postings.
How do I notify you of a change in address or phone number?
You may update your contact information (address, phone, e-mail, etc.) by returning to the applicant homepage and logging in with your username and password. Click the “My Profile” link. From there, you may change your address, phone number, e-mail address or your name.
How can I make sure I find out about new job openings?
Sign up to be notified of new postings in fields that interest you! On the Careers homepage, click the “Advanced Search” link, enter your search criteria and click the “Save Search” button to create your Job Agent profile. You will be notified by e-mail as new career openings are posted in your fields of interest.
I applied for a job yesterday. I saw another job that I want to apply for today. Will I have to fill out all my information again?
Once you’ve created an account, all future applications are quick and easy. If you want to change any of your information or use a different resume for the new position, you can do that. Also note that some positions may ask you to answer specific questions.
I’m a current Alliant Energy employee. Can I apply for a job I see on the Alliant Energy Web site?
Current Alliant Energy employees should apply online through The Compass Intranet. This will ensure that your resume is handled appropriately.
Who can I contact if I have other questions?
If you have questions about the hiring process or working at Alliant Energy, please e-mail careersquestion@alliantenergy.com.

Questions about applying online
How long will it take to apply online?
If you have a current, up-to-date resume prepared, it should take less than 10 minutes to register and submit your resume.
Do I have to answer all of the questions?
To fully portray your education, skills and experience, it is best to complete every question to make sure we have all your qualifications.
Can I attach my resume instead of pasting it into the form?
Yes – After you select a job and click the “Apply Now” button, you will be asked to either upload a resume file or ‘copy and paste’ resume text. Are there any rules about attaching files? Please use your own name when you title the document (e.g. Jane Doe Resume) and do not use any special characters, such as () [] {} - , ‘ ; / \ and <>. Also note that file attachments cannot be larger than 2 MB and must have a file extension of .doc, .rtf, .pdf or .txt.
Will I be able to change or update my resume after I submit it?
Once you submit the online application, you will not be able to edit or revise your application for the same position opening. However, you will be able to view the application you submitted.
For future positions, you will be able to select a new resume and submit a new application.
Is your online application system secure?
Yes – our system is designed to protect your personal information from unauthorized use. In addition, in accordance with our strict corporate privacy policy, we will not sell, rent or otherwise distribute your personal information to any outside organization.
If it is your first time applying online at Alliant Energy, you will need to provide a username and password so we can identify you in the future. You should select a password that is unique to you and can be easily remembered but is not obvious to others. Your e-mail address will also be required and may be used to contact you regarding your application.
What if I don’t have my own computer or e-mail account?
State job service agencies and most community libraries have public-access computers you can use to apply online. The staff there can assist you with setting up a free e-mail account.
What should I do if I forget my log-in information?
Click the “log-in help” link on the Careers homepage.

Technical questions about the online application system
The screen looks odd and I can't see the whole page. What's wrong?
Most likely your monitor's resolution is set to 800x600. For ease of use with this online application system, we recommend a screen resolution setting 1024x768 or higher. This setting is typically found under “My Computer>Control Panel>Display>Settings>Screen Area” on most computers.
I can get to the Alliant Energy Web site; however, I am unable to access the online application system. Now what?
Please make sure your browser pop-up blocker is turned off. Or, our system may be down at times for maintenance and/or other technical support issues. If you are unable to access the online system, please try again at another time.
I can get to the View Current Job Postings and Apply Online page, but when I click on it, I receive an “Error 500--Internal Server Error From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:10.5.1 500 Internal Server Error”. Now what?
Log out of your browser (i.e., Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, etc.), completely and try again.
