Interstate Power and Light’s Iowa electric customers are experiencing stable rates as part of our commitment to freeze base electric rates through 2013. Base rates are just one portion of a customer’s bill. Energy costs, which adjust monthly and transmission costs, which are adjusted annually, are also part of a customer’s monthly bill.
Natural Gas Rates
Interstate Power and Light‘s is seeking an adjustment to its natural gas base rates for customers in Iowa. This rate case is the first time IPL has adjusted its natural gas base rates since 2005. On August 16 by Interstate Power and Light, the Iowa Office of Consumer Advocate and Iowa Consumer Coalition filed a proposed settlement in the case. The Iowa Utilities Board will review that settlement as part of their process. A decision is expected in early 2013. Base rates are just one portion of a customer’s bill. Gas costs, which adjust monthly make up between 60-70 percent of the average residential bill. Base rates, which reflect the costs of providing service, make up on average 30-40 percent of the average residential bill.
