Natural gas expansion supports business growth

Alliant Energy adds a natural gas pipeline to serve more customers

AMES, Iowa – July 24, 2014 – Future business growth in Story and Hamilton counties is linked to the availability of natural gas. In this area of the state, there is significant business growth, and Alliant Energy is proud to meet the needs of its customers. On July 21, Alliant Energy broke ground on a 12” thirteen-mile natural gas pipeline that travels from Story City to Ames.

Dee Brown, Alliant Energy’s director of gas engineering planning and services said, “We’re excited to bring additional natural gas resources to this area to serve the growing needs of our customers.” Customers include DuPont, Lincolnway Energy and Iowa State University.

Jeffrey Witt, director of utility services with Iowa State University said, “We are in the process of converting a portion of our power plant from coal to natural gas. This new pipeline, and our partnership with Alliant Energy, will ensure Iowa State University is able to meet our future energy needs with a long-term and reliable supply of natural gas.”

“We realize that our ability to provide natural gas service to more customers not only helps individual businesses, but allows communities like Ames and Nevada to grow their economies,” said Annette Renaud, key account manager at Alliant Energy.

Alliant Energy will invest more than $20 million in this project; construction is expected to be completed by the end of October 2014. Included with this news release is a photo of natural gas pipeline materials being delivered to the construction site in Story City.
