Alliant Energy Power Wisconsin project starting in Janesville

New underground gas line will improve reliability for customers

JANESVILLE, Wis. – May 8, 2014 – Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin utility is expected to begin work next week on another Power Wisconsin project to install new underground natural gas pipeline which will enhance the safety and increase the reliability of gas service for residents on the southwest side of Janesville.

Alliant Energy is installing approximately 5,400 feet - over a mile – of new 6-inch underground natural gas distribution line on the city’s southwest side, just west of Highway 51. The new line will be put in along a route that starts at the intersection of County Highway D and Rockport Road. It will then proceed west on Rockport Road to South Arch Street. From the intersection of Rockport and South Arch, it will follow South Arch north to West Court Street. Finally, it will go along West Court Street and end at Crosby Avenue.

“This upgrade is part of our ongoing commitment to provide reliable gas service for our Janesville customers,” says Bridget Aldridge, Alliant Energy Senior Manager of Customer Operations. “We ask people to please use caution as they drive, walk or bike through the project area and to take the time to watch out for work crews. Drivers in particular are asked to use slower speeds during this important project.”

While no traffic reroutes are planned during the project, periodic lane closures will occur, most notably along West Court Street where one of the two westbound lanes will likely be closed at times during the construction.

The $700,000 project is scheduled to begin Monday, May 12 and is expected to be completed by early July. Once finished, it will create a looped, redundant gas line system that will provide an additional path to bring in natural gas service to the area. This will improve reliability to customers in southwest Janesville.

Alliant Energy’s 2014 Power Wisconsin Plan includes approximately $74 million of planned investments this year in upgrading overhead and underground electric lines, electric substations and natural gas infrastructure. Power Wisconsin’s goal is to improve system reliability, reduce outages, and provide more reliable power to Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin customers.
