MADISON, Wis. – March 15, 2013 – Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), an Alliant Energy Company, has donated $500,000 to its Hometown Care Energy Fund. The Fund benefits WPL customers in need of heating assistance.
The Hometown Care Energy Fund, which is administered by Energy Services, Inc., raises donations that are used by community action agencies to help customers in crisis, above and beyond the assistance provided by the Federal Low-Income Heating Assistance Program.
“We appreciate Alliant Energy taking the lead to address a critical need on behalf of their customers,” said Tim Bruer, executive director of Energy Services, Inc. “Community agencies rely on the generosity of corporations like Alliant Energy and individual donors to help keep homes safe and warm. This generous $500,000 contribution will go a long way toward achieving that goal.”
Donations and funds collected through the Hometown Care Energy Fund are disbursed by community-based non-profit organizations in Wisconsin who distribute money to those customers in need.
In 2012 the Hometown Care Energy Fund helped more than 480 households across Wisconsin with an average grant of more than $300 each. WPL customers also donated $68,200 to the Fund in 2012 through optional donations made when they paid their bill.
Since 2000, Alliant Energy shareholders, employees and customers have combined to donate more than $3.5 million to help WPL customers with heating assistance through the Hometown Care Energy Fund.
“Our Hometown Care Energy Fund allows us to provide some financial relief to the customers who need it most,” said Tim Heinrich, director of Customer Support Services – Alliant Energy. “This is the right thing to do to help our customers and these funds will help those who have difficulty paying for their heat during the critical winter months.”
