Alliant Energy Power Wisconsin project nearly complete in Beloit

Marine Substation upgrade will improve electric reliability

Beloit, Wis. – February 21, 2013 – Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), an Alliant Energy company, is nearing the completion of another Power Wisconsin Project. The project involves improving the reliability of the Marine Substation located along Prairie Avenue on the northside of Beloit.

Alliant Energy is doing a complete rebuild of the substation. This involves adding a new transformer, new metal-clad switchgear as well as replacing the fence around the property. The substation has been in-service for over thirty-five years and needed to be replaced with more modern components. The work will increase the reliability, performance and safety of the Marine Substation.

“The Marine Substation has served the northside of Beloit well over the years, but given its age, it was time for a complete rebuild with upgraded equipment,” said Greg Ardrey, Alliant Energy’s Manager of Project Management – Substations. “With the improvements we have made, this substation should provide reliable service to the area for the foreseeable future.”

The company’s investment in the upgrade project, which will be finished in April, is about $2 million. Alliant Energy wishes to thank the Stateline Family YMCA for their assistance in supporting the Marine Substation rebuild project.

Alliant Energy’s 2013 Power Wisconsin Plan includes approximately $70 million of planned investments this year in upgrading overhead and underground electric lines, electric substations and natural gas infrastructure. Power Wisconsin’s goal is to improve system reliability, reduce outages, and provide more reliable power to Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin customers.
