CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – January 30, 2013 – In December, several nonprofits in Dubuque received community grants totaling $37,750 from the Alliant Energy Foundation as part of its grant making process.
The following organizations are among those receiving grants:
Dubuque Community Thanksgiving received $5,000 to help provide Thanksgiving meals to elderly, homeless and homebound individuals who would not otherwise have one.
Four Mounds Foundation received $2,000 for its Housing Education & Rehabilitation Training Program, which provides at-risk youth with life skills education through the revitalization of homes in Dubuque's Washington neighborhood.
Rising Star Theatre Company received $2,650 for its summer youth production of Annie, a theatre study opportunity for the youth of Dubuque and surrounding tri-state communities.
Dubuque Audubon Society received $2,000 to help coordinate the 25th annual Dubuque Bald Eagle Watch for the community and school-age children to celebrate the return of the Bald Eagle from near extinction.
Grand Opera House received $1,000 to give the community the opportunity to hear a visiting European orchestra in its theater at affordable prices.
“Making a difference in communities we serve is important to us,” said Julie Bauer, executive director of the Alliant Energy Foundation. “We are proud to support the quality of life for residents of Dubuque and surrounding communities.”
The grants were made through the Alliant Energy Foundation’s Community Grants Program, which has awarded more than $275,000 in grants during its third-of-three grant cycles in 2012. More than $1 million was provided to 557 non-profit organizations across the Alliant Energy service area in 2012. The Foundation awards community grants to specific projects benefiting the community in the areas of arts, education, environment, and human and civic needs.
