Alliant Energy Foundation provides $2,500 grant to City of Winnebago

Funding will help provide new veterans’ memorial

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – January 16, 2013 – The Alliant Energy Foundation gave $2,500 to the City of Winnebago, Minn. in December to help construct a memorial to men and women who have served in the military.

This project will help provide a permanent place to commemorate military service members and veterans and will have space for names to be added as needed. The memorial has received broad community support, including funding from fire fighters and the Winnebago Legion.

“This memorial will help our community to provide important recognition and thanks to our service members,” said City Administrator Chris Ziegler. “We appreciate the support of the Alliant Energy Foundation in this valuable endeavor.”

“We are pleased to support the community in building a place for reflection,” said Alliant Energy Foundation Executive Director Julie Bauer.

The grants were made through the Alliant Energy Foundation’s Community Grants Program, which has awarded more than $275,000 in grants during its third-of-three grant cycles in 2012. More than $1 million was provided to 557 non-profit organizations across the Alliant Energy service area in 2012. The Foundation awards community grants to specific projects benefiting the community in the areas of arts, education, environment, and human and civic needs.
