Freeborn County nonprofits receive $11,500 from Alliant Energy Foundation

Gifts to schools, nonprofits part of ongoing grant making

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – January 16, 2013 – In 2012, several nonprofits in and around Albert Lea received community grants totaling more than $11,500 from the Alliant Energy Foundation as part of its grant making process.

  • The Family Y received $2,000 to help provide memberships to all 3rd grade students in Freeborn County to foster active lifestyles and knit community together through greater interactions.
  • The Freeborn County Agricultural Society received $2,000 for its Elephant Encounter educational performance at the Freeborn County Fair.
  • Sibley SHARE received $1,000 to provide an opportunity for elementary school students to participate in a theater production under the direction of professional actors.
  • ARC of Freeborn County received $1,000 for an adaptive summer and afterschool program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Other local organizations receiving funding from the Community Grants Program in 2012 include: Big Island Rendezvous, the Children’s Center, Pelican Breeze Foundation, Lakeview Elementary School, and the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber Foundation.

The grants were made through the Alliant Energy Foundation’s Community Grants Program, which has awarded more than $275,000 in grants during its third-of-three grant cycles in 2012. More than $1 million was provided to 557 non-profit organizations across the Alliant Energy service area in 2012. The Foundation awards community grants to specific projects benefiting the community in the areas of arts, education, environment, and human and civic needs.
