Sheboygan nonprofits receive $22,000 from Alliant Energy and its Foundation

Gifts to food pantries, nonprofits part of holiday giving effort, ongoing grant making

MADISON, Wis. – December 18, 2012 – Several nonprofits received donations totaling $11,000 from Alliant Energy as part of its year-end giving campaign, while others received $11,000 in community grants from the Alliant Energy Foundation.

To assist families in need at this time of year, Alliant Energy is providing assistance to more than 100 food pantries and human needs organizations across its service area. As part of this effort, Alliant Energy contributed $5,000 to the Sheboygan Food Pantry, while the Sheboygan Salvation Army and Sheboygan Safe Harbor each received $2,500. Several local nonprofits also received contributions totaling more than $1,200. The funds provide needed support for services to low-income families and individuals in Sheboygan during the holiday season.

Local nonprofits receiving smaller donations include:

  • St. Luke United Methodist food pantry
  • St. Mark Lutheran Church food pantry
  • St. Peter Claver Catholic Church food pantry
  • Northside Christian food pantry
  • Concordia Singing Society
  • Early Bird Rotary Foundation Memory Tree
  • Sheboygan Softball’s Toys for Tots

“Assisting our neighbors in need and making a difference in the community is important to us,” said Nick Banko, Alliant Energy manager of customer operations. “We appreciate the support of the Sheboygan area community and in turn, we believe that it is important for us to give back. During this season of giving and throughout the year, we are grateful to be able to make a difference here.”

At the same time, the Alliant Energy Foundation has contributed an additional $11,000 to local nonprofits to support community development efforts as part of its regular grant-making cycle.

Meals on wheels of Sheboygan County received $5,000 to improve its main kitchen capabilities, boosting the quality and nutritional content of the food it serves to homebound and disabled seniors. RCS Empowers and the Sheboygan County YMCA received contributions for local programs as well.

These grants were part of the Alliant Energy Foundation’s Community Grants Program, which has awarded more than $275,000 in grants during its third-of-three grant cycles in 2012, bringing this year’s total to nearly $1,000,000 provided to more than 532 non-profit organizations.

“We are honored and humbled to be able to reach out to human service organizations before the holidays to assist our customers and neighbors in need,” said Julie Bauer, Alliant Energy Foundation executive director. “During this season of giving and throughout the year, we are grateful to be able to make a difference in the communities where Alliant Energy has a presence.”
